Description

Composition jaune et bleue (eng. Yellow and blue composition). Original color lithograph, unknown year. Edition E.A. (artist’s proof) signed and numbered impressions on Arches paper.
Serge Poliakoff was a Russian painter and lithographer, one of the most widely recognized of the abstract artists after World War who spent most of his life in Paris. After figurative beginnings, he finds his personal mode of abstract expression with dominance of color. His non-representational art images characterize mutually interwoven geometrical shapes of bold color. On Poliakoff’s understanding of color and the works he made throughout his career, artworks of Wassily Kandinsky and Sonia Delaunay had a profound impact. In this graphic we can see the artist avoids overly geometric lines and forms, characteristic for his artwork, and emphasizes asymmetrical and expressive qualities associated with Informel or Tachisme.
