Description

Erba Ginestra (eng. Broom grass). Original silkscreen, 1974. Edition of 50 signed and numbered impressions on Arches paper.
Adriana Maraž is a slovenian graphic artist, a well-known member of the conceptual visual art group “Group 69”. Along with other artists and groups of artists, she was important in establishing the abstract modernist artistic tradition within Slovenia. Maraž developed the color etching technique by loading multicolored graphic layers, and she is famous for her graphics of Biedermeier sofas and chairs, and other objects that are a metaphor for awareness of the passing of time, of the old and the new, of their appearance and what lies behind it. She humanized her armchairs and sofas and imprinted anthropomorphic gestures on them. This graphic, as well as many others, indicate her extremely subtle, detached, mysterious and sophisticated aristocratic personality. She expressed herself in an utterly obscure way, yet with a clear imagination she clearly understood and lucidly judged. With her light she summoned a materially illusory and mystical spiritual space in the extremely poetic and sensitive prints.
