Description

Geometric composition. Original pencil and watercolor on paper, 1991.
Luigi Veronesi was the central figure of Italian art of the second half of the 20th century, photographer, painter, scenographer and film director born in Milan. He had some experiments with photogram in his art. He combined photographic images with oil in canvas, where the shapes of objects, he put in the dark, became the matrix for an abstract painting to which he applied color and added drawn geometric lines to enhance the dynamics. Veronesi was also interested in music in relation with visual art – by researching the mathematical relationships of musical notes, he achieved translations of musical notes into tonal relationships of color, so he created chromatic transpositions of musical scores. His fascination with geometry and mathematics can be seen in many of his abstract composition like this.
