Description
Girasole della notte (eng. Sunflower in the night). Original hand painted ceramic sculpture, 2009.
Kazumasa Mizokami is a Japanese contemporary sculptor who lives in Italy. He learned to work with terracotta from his parents in Japan and studied sculpture in Mexico. His sculptures and installations are inspired by the imaginative world of Japanese story telling traditions but Mizokami treats the terracotta in a spontaneous way, unlike the traditional Japanese hand craft. Every Mizokami’s artwork is a reflection of his feelings which takes on shape and color during the process of work. They are expressions of love and happiness and they indicate continuation and reconstruction, the emergence and disappearance, and dependence of the flow of time. Mizokami shows us a field of sunflowers by the night sky through his eyes. Moonlighted flowers reflect a poetry of shapes and colors.
