Jean-Michel Folon was a Belgian contemporary artist, illustrator, painter and sculptor. During his diverse artistic career, Folon experimented with different techniques like watercolor, etching, silkscreen, illustrations, mosaics and stained glass. He also designed numerous posters – often for humanitarian causes, sculptures made out of wood, clay, plaster, bronze and marble, murals, theater and opera scenery, short films, logotypes, church windows and even a Palio flag. Contrasts are characteristic for his artwork, his lines was simple and his bright palette was intentionally optimistic. His subject matter was often downbeat, criticizing what he believed was relentless urban conformity and the loneliness it caused. “I don’t understand my pictures, and everyone is free to interpret them as they wish. I’ve just tried to depict my dreams, with the hope that others will add their own.” – Folon.
