Janez Bernik was an internationally acclaimed Slovenian contemporary artist and academic. He was a painter, engraver, sculptor, illustrator, graphic designer and poet and his graphic prints are kept in numerous worldwide-known galleries. Bernik has made textural abstract paintings and prints on the theme of the unspoilt texture of the earth, with indecipherable inscriptions evocative of ancient documents. This graphic is a typical Bernik’s combination of images and words. In the forefront we can see a silhouette of a girl, an Italian word ‘la mela’ (eng. apple) and a portrait of two girls looking like a postage stamp. The whole print reminds us of surrealists playing with terms and techniques like a photogram and a collage.
