Love. Original color silkscreen, unknown year. Edition of E.A. (artist’s proof) signed and numbered impressions on Arches paper.
Janez Bernik was an internationally acclaimed Slovenian contemporary artist and academic. He was a painter, engraver, sculptor, illustrator, graphic designer and poet and his graphic prints are kept in numerous worldwide-known galleries. Bernik has made textural abstract paintings and prints on the theme of the unspoilt texture of the earth, with indecipherable inscriptions evocative of ancient documents. This is a graphic of people at the banquet in a black frame. Each of them was presented as almost a silhouette, but one woman looks the darkest and she has a word ‘love’ on her head, as the name of the graphic said. Only girls at the table have some marks. The whole print has an indigo blue palette, which can be related with the word ‘weal’ on the head of the other girl. The third girl has an imprint of a star.
