Nude. Original color silkscreen, unknown year. Edition of 150 signed and numbered impressions on Arches paper.
Branko Bahunek is a Croatian naive artist born in 1935. Unlike the other Croatian artists who were inspired by Croatian country motives, Bahunek made his art basis on an urban life of the city. The woman is the most common theme of his artwork – there is many different women portraits, nudes, but also you can see the spirit of the cities like Zagreb or Dubrovnik. This is Bahunek’s nude art – a lady lying on an elegant purple sofa. Purple color was a symbol for royal families in medieval ages, but in the 19th and 20th century only rich people could afford purple textile. There is another interesting thing on this nude – a portrait of a woman on the wall behind the sofa. It looks like she is watching a lady on the sofa.
