Louise Bourgeois was an American artist, born in Paris, France. She is well known for her large-scale sculptures and installations, but she was also a prolific painter and printmaker. Most common themes she explored was domesticity and the family, sexuality and the body, as well as death and the subconscious, which were connected to events from her childhood (recalling the affair of her father with her nanny and her mother’s refusal to acknowledge it). Bourgeois deemed that art can be a therapeutic process. Her artwork conveys feelings of anger, betrayal, and jealousy in a playful manner, and some of her art pieces consist of erotic and sexual images, which we can see on some graphics from this portfolio.
