Description

Sculpture. Original sculpture with nails and wood, 1975.
Dušan Džamonja was one of the most influential visionary sculptural artists from Yugoslavia. He is also known for his architecture projects and monumental memorials that are located across the countries of ex Yugoslavia and wider. Džamonja is often called a father of this uniquely Yugoslavian commemorative sculptural movement. His artwork is a combination of organic and inorganic materials and forms. He created free space constructions of pure geometrical shapes and sculptures of simple forms. Curves, spheres, ovoids, bent prisms and cubes are combined and rhythmically repeated themselves into highly complex and inspiring designs. This spherical sculpture, made of wood and iron nails pierced to the core rhythmically repeated, even small dimensions strives for monumentality.
