Description

Sculpture. Original sculpture with nails and wood, 1980.
Dušan Džamonja was one of the most influential visionary sculptural artists from Yugoslavia. He is also known for his architecture projects and monumental memorials that are located across the countries of ex Yugoslavia and wider. Džamonja is often called a father of this uniquely Yugoslavian commemorative sculptural movement. His artwork is a combination of organic and inorganic materials and forms. He created free space constructions of pure geometrical shapes and sculptures of simple forms. Curves, spheres, ovoids, bent prisms and cubes are combined and rhythmically repeated themselves into highly complex and inspiring designs. This is an elliptical sculpture with pierced by iron nails and rhythmically repeated into the core. The nails are densely compacted, but they show the core in one fragment which makes the composition dynamic and emphasizes the relationship between inner and outer, core and wrapper, and lining and angular.
