Description

Sphere. Original sculpture with silver plates, 1975.
Dušan Džamonja was one of the most influential visionary sculptural artists from Yugoslavia. He is also known for his architecture projects and monumental memorials that are located across the countries of ex Yugoslavia and wider. Džamonja is often called a father of this uniquely Yugoslavian commemorative sculptural movement. His artwork is a combination of organic and inorganic materials and forms. He created free space constructions of pure geometrical shapes and sculptures of simple forms. Curves, spheres, ovoids, bent prisms and cubes are combined and rhythmically repeated themselves into highly complex and inspiring designs. This sculpture with organic oval structure is made of small metal fragments that attach to each other like cells in some organism. This abstract artistic expression, created of the identical elements have eclectic vision and dynamics – “If symphony can be composed of only seven notes, why can’t a spacial composition be made of seven elements?”, said Džamonja.
