Albert Merz is a Swiss contemporary abstract artist, who lives in Berlin now. He is known for his murals, graphics, sculptures and installations. Following the spirit of the times, Merz turned to the so-called wild painting in the 80s, because of his amorphous, expressive images. The artworks are a combination of abstract and figurative images, inspired by archaism. This graphic is gestural and expressive, but not fully abstract, because we can still see the concrete, material forms like an hourglass in the top left corner or a bowl in the center of the composition. Merz associates abstract shapes to real ones in a harmonious composition, playing with light and obscurity, colors and transparency.
