Description

Melancholy. Original color silkscreen, unknown year. Edition of 150 signed and numbered impressions on Arches paper.
Branko Bahunek is a Croatian naive artist born in 1935. Unlike the other Croatian artists who were inspired by Croatian country motives, Bahunek made his art basis on an urban life of the city. The woman is the most common theme of his artwork – there is many different women portraits, nudes, but also you can see the spirit of the cities like Zagreb or Dubrovnik. As the name of the portrait says, we feel a melancholic atmosphere watching this image. A woman, standing with her head bowed and looking somewhere down, is holding a small yellow flower. Her dress and a commode with a crystal glass on her left side shows us she is from a rich family, despite that she probably misses someone.
