Description

Chestnut trees in bloom. Original pastels on paper, unknown year.
Kosa Bokšan was a Serbian painter who lived in Paris. She was painting landscapes and portraits when she finished her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade, but when she moved to Paris her art became more abstract and approached to the Informalism. After that she had two phases – ‘The Paris School’ realism, so-called abstract naturalism and later when she was influenced by the Byzantine tradition, Bokšan transformed mythical symbols into an artistic expression. This is Bokšan’s impression of the form of absolute abstraction. We can still perceive some shapes of flowers on the chestnut trees.
