Description

Untitled. Original color lithograph, unknown year. Edition of E.A. (artist’s proof) signed and numbered impressions on Arches paper.
André Lanskoy was contemporary painter and printmaker born in Russia. He lived and worked in France and he is associated with the School of Paris and Tachisme. His figurative pictures inspired by Van Gogh, Matisse and Soutine, from his early period, turned into abstract expressions and he became one of the most important exponents of “lyric abstraction” within the “École de Paris”. It is not unusual for modern and contemporary artists to have text or letters or messages in their artworks, especially in post-war art such as Informalism. In the focus of this picture is the sentence: (eng.)”I am the first who discovered the woman is in love with the devil”, which may be related to some of his love disappointment.
