Description

Dvojina (eng. Double). Original color aquatint, 1985. Edition of E.A. (artist’s proof) signed and numbered impressions on Arches paper.
Adriana Maraž is a Slovenian graphic artist, a well-known member of the conceptual visual art group “Group 69”. Along with other artists and groups of artists, she was important in establishing the abstract modernist artistic tradition within Slovenia. Maraž developed the color etching technique by loading multicolored graphic layers, and she is famous for her graphics of Biedermeier sofas and chairs, and other objects that are a metaphor for awareness of the passing of time, of the old and the new, of their appearance and what lies behind it. She humanized her armchairs and sofas and imprinted anthropomorphic gestures on them. There are two jars tied with rope with inscription “kumarice” which means pickles. This print should remind us of pop art and Warhol’s prints with supermarket products, but Maraž imprinted a story inside “Dvojina” about the past.
